Custom AI or a generic chatbot: how to choose

Use a generic tool when the knowledge is public

Opening hours, a brochure, a first qualification question, a handoff to WhatsApp: a packaged assistant handles these well. The cost is low, the setup is short, and the risk of a wrong answer is limited because the content is already on the site.

Choose this path when you need coverage outside office hours and the conversation does not have to touch internal systems.

Build a custom system when the answer is yours alone

Customs classification, a financial profile, kitchen hygiene from a photo, a match between a candidate and a role: the value is in your data and your rules. A generic chat window cannot see that data, and pasting it into a public tool is often not acceptable.

A custom build connects the model to the source of truth, limits what it is allowed to say, and leaves an audit trail. That is slower to start than a plugin. It is the version a client, a regulator, or an investor can review.

Decide with one workflow, not a platform tour

Pick a single job. Define the input, the acceptable error, and who signs off. If a packaged tool can do that job this month, use it. If the job needs your documents, your calculations, or your approval step, scope a custom integration and stop comparing feature lists.

DIGROW AI and DIGROW Solutions build both kinds of systems, from in-house products such as NetCardAI and CustomsAI to tools shaped around one company’s process. The useful first meeting is about the job, not the model name.

Talk through your case

If this is the problem your team is stuck on, DIGROW Group can scope the workflow, the campaign, or the build with you.
